my favourite pens

I am a pen girl, there I’ve said it.

I don’t care who knows, well actually I’m technically an eraser girl first but that involves a lot of sniffing them and squeezing them and that is maybe a bit much to share on the internet so soon, maybe next month when we know each other a bit better.

My whole life I have been a stationery addict, the only way my mum could ever get me to go back to school every year after the summer (I wish this was an exaggeration but alas it’s not) was the promise of my big WH Smith stationery haul I got to have before school started.

I know they say to not have favourites but I can’t lie, I do, so I’m going to share with you, my favourite pens.

Here they are…

Muji Gel Ink Ballpoint Pen 0.38

I can still remember so clearly the first time my sister took me into a Muji shop in London, that stand of pens and notebooks and erasers in the middle of the shop felt like it was glowing to me, as soon as I tested out some of them on the swatch pads in the shop I knew I was in love. Thankfully you can buy them online now as I don’t have a shop near me. These are my favourite pens to write important or special things with, you get a sleek and elegant thin nib and the gel ink combo is so smooth with absolutely no splotchy patches that you can sometimes get in traditional thick gel pens. The ink lasts forever in these too, you can get tons of colours but my favourite is the blue and the red. I always like my writing the best when I use these.

BIC Cristal 1.6mm in pink

This is my everyday pen. I only use the pink colour. It is my dream shade of pink ink, I also only write on pink paper so that mixed with the pink ink has become a bit of a tradmark for me. I love the way this pen writes, it’s definitely not fancy and it’s just like a traditional ballpoint pen, which if i’m being honest I don’t think you can do better for everyday writing. It’s a thicker nib, I can write fast with it, the ink flows really nicely and I get a good amount of time using it before the ink starts to run out. This is a real forever favourite!

Sakura Pigma Micron Fineliner

If you make art like I do, then this won’t come as a shock that these are included in this list. These are pretty iconic fineliners and they really do live up to the hype. I buy them in packs mostly as I find that I love having the choice of different nib sizes depending on what i’m drawing and I do use them all. My favourite nibs are 03 and 05 though. I have been through so many packets as I love them so much. If you make a lot of artwork especially detailed line work I would really recommend them and I also enjoy the thinner nibs for writing too.

Uni-Ball Fine Liners

I actually used these before I used the Sakura’s, these are equally as iconic in the art world and I love them too. I think they are equal to the Sakura in a lot of ways for me other than I find the ink doesn’t last as long in these and the nib bends out of shape quicker when use a lot of pressure. Still a favourite though and I love having them on hand always.

Tombow Fudenosuke

Another raved about pen and for good reason, this has a stronger firmer nib compared to the uni-Ball or the Sakura. I love using this as a sketching pen or to make initial drawings, it feels so lovely to use and this one actually writes beautiful too. I’ve also practised some script and Calligraphy writing with this one as well.
